What causes it
The line means part of the AMOLED display panel has failed. It can appear after a drop or pressure on the screen, but it also appears on phones that have never been damaged, sometimes after a software update. Many S20, S21 and S22 phones in particular have developed it.
Will it go away?
No. A restart or update won't fix a failed panel, and lines often multiply or spread over time.
Check with Samsung first
If your phone is undamaged, still under warranty, or has Samsung Care+, contact Samsung first. Samsung has offered free screen replacements for this fault on some models in some countries, so it's worth asking.
The fix
If Samsung won't cover it, the fix is a new screen. We fit genuine Samsung screens on most Galaxy S models at your home or workplace. See our Galaxy S repairs.
Quick answers
Is a green line on my Samsung screen a hardware fault?
Yes. It's a fault in the display panel itself, so the screen needs replacing.
Can I keep using my phone with a green line?
Yes, if you can live with it, but it often gets worse over time.
