Try these first
- Restart the phone. A frozen graphics process can cause flicker that a restart clears.
- Update the software. Some flicker problems have been fixed by iOS and Android updates.
- Turn off auto-brightness for a moment. If the flicker stops, it was the brightness adjusting, not a fault.
- Android only: restart in safe mode. If the flicker stops, an app is causing it.
Signs it's the screen itself
- Lines that stay in the same place, even on the lock screen or after a restart
- Green, pink or white vertical lines
- Black or purple patches that spread
- Flicker that started after a drop or pressure in a pocket
- Touch not working in part of the screen
These mean the display panel or its connection is damaged, and a screen replacement is the fix.

Quick answers
Can a flickering screen fix itself?
If it's software, a restart or update can fix it. If it's hardware, it usually gets worse over time.
Is it safe to keep using a phone with lines on the screen?
Yes, it's safe, but the lines often spread, and touch can stop working in that area.
